firenze!
This weekend was suchhh a busy weekend. It was our first of many trips around Italy and Europe during the weekends, and this weekend we stayed in Florence and took a day trip to Pisa. We stayed in the southeast part of the city, which meant we had to walk past this beauty to get to our hostel:

What a bummer, eh? Yeah. I’m kidding. It was absolutely STUNNING. It’s called the Duomo, and it’s simply amazing. So beautifully decorated and simply amazing to behold. I still cannot get over that they actually could build this without modern technology! It was so beautiful.
The first thing we did when we got there was check into our hostel, which was good enough. It had hot water and we each got a bed, so I was happy! Of course, a photo shoot ensued with the girls:

Note: YES. What you are seeing is a group of 7 girls. We got a HUGE room that had two levels, and it was basically just a ginormous sleepover. SO. MUCH. FUN. :))
That first night, we got dinner near the Ponte Vecchio (pictured below) and got some gelato, because Firenze is known for their superb gelato. Then we hit up the discoteca!! So much fun! Apparently it’s one of the clubs that Jersey Shore would hit up, so that is kinda exciting. We had a great time, but I was up till 4:30 am. I’m an old lady; I can’t stay up that late! I think I’m developing a cold now as a result. Blerg.
The next day, we made sure to get everyone up at a decent time, even though we had just been up hours before. Then we decided to get all of our big touring done in one day! We started off by going to the Bargello museum, which has some of the art work that is in the private collection of the Medici family. Here are a few pictures of the things I saw while there:

After here, we headed to get some lunch. Afterwards, we headed to the Accademia, which houses Michelangelo’s David. Though I couldn’t take any pictures inside, I did manage to snatch a picture of the fake David outside of the Uffizi:
NICE.
After the Accademia was the Uffizi. The Uffizi is the museum that houses La Primavera and The Birth of Venus. It was super big and super long to walk through, and it took us an hour to only walk through one floor. I know everything is super important, but if I don’t see anymore Madonna’s and Bambini’s, it’ll be an okay day ;) At one point in the Uffizi, we could see the Ponte Vecchio over the Arno River:

Super pretty, eh?? This city was gorgeous; I can’t wait to go back soon to see my bestie Courtney there :))
That night, we decided to not go out because A) We were so completely beat and B) We had to get up for Pisa in the morning!!
However, even though we stayed in doesn’t mean we didn’t get a little curzay. However, this craziness was most definitely sleep deprivation induced. We decided to re-enact some a few of the paintings that we had seen that day, and this gloriousness resulted. It is entitled, “The Gifts of the Magi”:

Lynn (aka baby Jesus) looks particularly scary, eh? It actually looks like she is child sized. I’m in love. This picture is pure gold!
I’m just in love with this group of girls:

worky work busy bee!
tooooooooday was quite the busy day indeed… for a saturday at least. i had to wake up at 7 am (drag) to be at the bus by 8:15. I made my own coffee here for the first time, and it wasn’t too bad. could have possibly burned the apartment down but i saved it in time :)
once we got on the bus and arrived at our first destination, we were at the Iceman Museum, which is a museum in Bolzano that houses Otzi, a man who was perfectly mummified in a glacier from the early neolithic area. it really was quite amazing to see him and how well preserved he was. also, all of his belongings were very cool! he had the world’s oldest preserved cereal grains in his clothes… how neat is that?
we were able to walk around the town a little after the museum. it was super cool to be this far north in italy; we were pretty close to the austrian border, and you can definitely see the austrian influence in the food, dialect, and even how things are posted around the city (italian and german). these pictures are some of the things i saw on our adventures around the city:

the beautiful mountains:

CRAZY CHICAS!

the river by the town center

the group we met up with and played on the playground with:

the beautiful northern view of the town:

i had to pose mmhmmm:

after the museum and walking around Bolzano, we headed to Roverto to see Castello del Buonconsiglio. it was quite fascinating, but i would have liked it more if they had some of the furniture and things around the castle that were there when the castle was actually used. that would have been so much cooler to see! but it was still very neat to see the paintings done all over the ceilings and walls… i can’t believe how much detail goes into one castle!

(this one is a little scandalous…)

and then of course i had to get a solo pic by the fountain!!

after seeing the castle, we went into a german-influenced restaurant and had dinner. i got a DELICIOUS beer (legal ehh hem) and pizza and fries. kinda american, kinda what i needed! i was so hungry from the day’s adventures it wasn’t even funny!!

I DON’T THINK I’M EVER GOING TO LEAVE.
